Data breaches are no joke. One out of every three people involved in a data breach later becomes a victim of identity theft. Unfortunately, we can’t control when a data breach occurs. However, we can minimize the effects by utilizing identity protection, like SHERPA.® SHERPA® Identity Protection alerts you by e-mail if your personal information is detected on the dark web. If you find yourself involved in a data breach, immediately change your password and set up notifications to alert you if an unknown user attempts to log in. Check your bank account to make sure no fraudulent activity has occurred and call your financial institution to cancel and re-issue your credit or debit card if necessary.  If you discover someone is using your name to open new lines of credit, alert all three credit bureaus as soon as possible. If you feel that your social security number may have been compromised, call your SHERPA® specialist immediately. The more proactive you are about your identity, the less time and money it takes to restore it.
